STAGE HAND
Duties and responsibilities
- Work with the Director of Operations in determining production needs for all services of the orchestra including audio, lighting, stage plots, scenic elements, instrument needs, and any other production and technical needs as required.
- Arrange musician chairs and music stands according to stage plots and conductor specifications.
- Work with technical staff to adjust lighting and microphone placements as needed.
- Remain on-site during rehearsals and concerts and be attentive to assist with stage transitions (may include moving chairs, stands, instruments and ushering musicians) and lighting changes.
- Communicate with conductors, musicians, and crew members to fulfill special requests and stage adjustments efficiently.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in stage crew, event setup, or live performance support preferred.
- Knowledge of orchestral instruments and stage layout.
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.)
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required by rehearsal and performance schedules.
- Attention to detail and problem-solving skills in high-pressure environments.
Work Environment
- Fast-paced, physically demanding setting.
- Indoor and outdoor venues depending on the orchestra’s schedule.
- Standing for extended periods and working under tight time constraints.

ORCHESTRA MUSIC LIBRARIAN
Duties and responsibilities
- Annual/Ongoing:
- In consultation with Music Director, determine sources of sheet music for each concert set and provide budget estimates to President/CEO.
- Order and receive purchased or rented music on a schedule that allows for timely distribution to musicians.
- Communicate promptly with Director of Operations regarding any discrepancies between parts received and musicians hired.
- Maintain inventory of Rochester Symphony orchestra library and coordinate loans to other groups.
- Per Performance Cycle:
- Collect bowings from string principals and distribute to string sections.
- Scan and distribute digital music as needed to ensure adequate preparation opportunity for musicians.
- Prepare physical music packets for each musician, including marking parts as directed.
- Collect music after each concert set, following up with musicians to collect missing parts.
- Return complete sets of sheet music to library or rental sources ensuring that all rented parts are cleaned/erased in compliance with any rental contracts.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of orchestral music is required.
- Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, document scanning, and web-based platforms.)
- Music notation software experience is an asset.
- Flexibility in schedule to work rehearsal and concert evenings and/or weekends as needed.
- Must have reliable transportation and be able to safely lift up to 30 pounds.
The successful candidate will be attentive to detail, will show evidence of ability to work efficiently and independently, and will consistently meet deadlines.
